Knobby Russet apple
Origins from Sussex, England and first exhibited in 1820. Also known as Knobbed Russet, Old Maid's Winter and Winter Russet.
The special thing about Knobby Russet is that it is perhaps the ugliest apple in the world, it looks more like a potato than an apple. The uneven surface is coated with rough grayish black to reddish-brown dents and buds. The meat is soft and sweet with a strong aroma.
Harvested in mid-October and can be stored for February / March.
